Wellington
is a small, unincorporated town located in Lyon County in west-central Nevada. It lies southwest of the city of Yerington along State Route 208. The population of Wellington is approximately 1100 people. The town sits within Smith Valley and contains several city businesses that serve the people of the valley. It has a health clinic, dental services, a post office, a volunteer fire department, a combination grocery-gas station and a complete Kindergarten -12 public school. Nearby activities include rock hounding, mountain climbing, golf, hiking, skiing and exploring old ghost towns. Wellington is approximately an hour and a half to Lake Tahoe, and a 30-45 minute drive to Lahontan Reservoir, Walker Lake and Topaz Reservoir. Nearby, the neighboring city of Yerington hosts several special events throughout the year, such an Annual Spring Fling, a special 4th of July Celebration, and an Annual Fall Harvest Festival. If you want to experience the feeling of old west rural Nevada, yet not be too far from the excitement of the ski slopes of Lake Tahoe, consider visiting the towns of Wellington/Yerington.

West-central Nevada has an arid to semi-arid climate with hot summers and cold winters. Summer temperatures tend to be in the 90s F., and winter temperatures in the 40s. The warmest month of the year is July and the coldest month of the year is December. Temperature variations between night and day tend to be relatively large due to low humidity. The annual average precipitation in west-central Nevada is 5.3 inches. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, although the wettest month is May with an average rainfall of 0.71 inches. The region of the state gets around 7-8 in of snow annually. A type of heavy fog, known as pogonip, is common in winter.
