Stateline
is located on the east shore of Lake Tahoe in Douglas County, Nevada. As of the 2010 census, the population was 842. It adjoins the city of South Lake Tahoe, which is the largest city on the shores of the famous lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. During busy times, the population of Stateline swells considerably, therefore there are a large number of hotels, motels, cabins and other rentals available. Stateline is home to five casinos, four of which qualify as resorts; Harveys Lake Tahoe, Harrah's Lake Tahoe, Horizon, MontBleu (formerly Caesar's,) and Lakeside Inn. Stateline and South Lake Tahoe are effectively one town, with the state line actually intersecting with U.S. Route 50 right in the bustling part of town immediately after Harrah's and Harvey's casinos. Most of Stateline's residential and seasonal accommodations, amenities and services are located on, or near, a well-known feature known as Kingsbury Grade (State Route 207.) Kingsbury Grade runs up and over a mountain pass that rises up from Lake Tahoe, then drops down to Gardnerville on the other side. In the winter months, this route can be very difficult and snow chains on your vehicle is essential. Lake Tahoe is a nature lover's dream with the largest concentration of world-class ski resorts located here. Within an hour's drive there's over 30 championship golf courses to choose from. Stateline/Lake Tahoe offers hiking, mountain biking, fishing, boating, water skiing and camping amid some of the most breathtaking scenery in the United States.

Stateline Weather & Climate

A distinct four-season, alpine climate describes Lake Tahoe's weather. Located in the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains at the 7,000-foot level, summers are generally warm and dry with cool evenings and winters are quite cold and snowy. Moderate amounts of snow are reported each year in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with amounts and intensities increasing at elevations around 6,000 to 8,000 feet. Above 4,000 feet snow remains on the ground for long periods of time each winter and up to 40 feet of snow can be reported in the Sierras. Highways are sometimes closed for periods of two to three days due to blowing and drifting snow. Summers are quite pleasant and mild with occasional rain or thunderstorms. Sometimes, after a prolonged hot spell, thunderstorms at the higher elevations may become severe.
