Gardnerville
is located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in west-central Nevada. It's adjacent to the town of Minden. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,656. State Route 207, also known as Kingsbury Grade, connects Gardnerville to Stateline and U.S. Route 50. It's just 45-50 minutes from the city of Reno and 20-25 minutes to Lake Tahoe. Gardnerville, along with the towns of Minden and Genoa, make up the Carson Valley. It's an area of spectacular mountain views, four seasons of beauty and lots of sunshine. Carson Valley is known worldwide for its soaring and hang-gliding opportunities. Flights of over 990 miles have been made on sailplanes from the area. Nearby Minden is the county seat and home to a campus of the Western Nevada College. At one time, the Carson Valley, and Minden in particular, was a getaway for the Hollywood elite, including Clark Gable and Jean Harlow. In the 1970s and 1980s, the area continued to grow with subdivisions sprouting up and businesses appearing. The historic downtown of Minden is hosts several special events throughout the year, including farmers markets, concerts and arts and crafts fairs.

Gardnerville Weather & Climate

A distinct four-season, alpine climate describes Lake Tahoe's weather. Located in the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains at the 7,000-foot level, summers are generally warm and dry with cool evenings and winters are quite cold and snowy. Moderate amounts of snow are reported each year in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with amounts and intensities increasing at elevations around 6,000 to 8,000 feet. Above 4,000 feet snow remains on the ground for long periods of time each winter and up to 40 feet of snow can be reported in the Sierras. Highways are sometimes closed for periods of two to three days due to blowing and drifting snow. Summers are quite pleasant and mild with occasional rain or thunderstorms. Sometimes, after a prolonged hot spell, thunderstorms at the higher elevations may become severe.
