Spring-Valley is an unincorporated town located in the southern tip of Nevada just 2 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. As of the 2010 census, the population was 178,395. The town of Spring Valley was formed in 1981 by Pardee Homes. The development company began creating a master-planned community called Spring Valley in the mid-1970s. Eventually, residents came together in 1981 and solicited the Clark County Commission to create an unincorporated town, which it did in 1981. Originally, the town occupied one square mile, but now it occupies most of the southwest quarter of the Las Vegas Valley. The community mostly consists of housing subdivisions and strip malls, but the southern part of Spring Valley is quickly growing. A large park called Desert Breeze Park is located in the north-central part of the town. Just minutes away, the 4.2-mile long Las Vegas Strip offers 24-hour gambling, entertainment, shopping and fine dining. Some of the largest hotels and casinos in the world are located on the Las Vegas Strip. Spring Valley offers an alternative for those wanting to experience Las Vegas, but stay in a more low-key area.

Spring Valley Weather & Climate

The southeast corner of Nevada has a subtropical desert climate with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Extremely cold weather is rare. On occasion, however, a cold air mass reaches the area and produces prolonged cold periods. Southeast Nevada has a wide variation in day and nighttime temperatures. Even after the hottest days, nights are usually cool. June to September is very dry. Annual precipitation is around 4.5 inches, mostly falling in the wintertime. Winter daytime highs are generally 60 degrees. F., and lows in the 40s. Snow is rare in southern Nevada valleys, but common in the mountains of the region. The principal climatic features are bright sunshine, small annual precipitation, (averaging nine inches in the valleys and deserts) heavy snowfall in the higher mountains, clean, dry air, and exceptionally large daily ranges of temperature.
