Primm , also called Primm Valley, (and formerly known as State Line) is a small town located in the southern tip of Nevada. The population is approximately 1,100 full-time residents. The community straddles Interstate 15 where it crosses the border between Nevada and California. The name "Stateline" was changed in 1996 to avoid confusion with the city of Stateline in northern Nevada that is adjacent to South Lake Tahoe. Primm is primarily known for its three casinos, which support the town's economy. Gamblers traveling from southern California often stop at Primm as a last resting place before reaching Las Vegas 40 miles away. Or, they stop as a last chance to gamble before leaving Nevada. Most of the residents of Primm are employees of the casinos. In 2004, under MGM Mirage ownership, 52 apartment buildings were constructed in Primm and the complex was named Desert Oasis. The apartments serve as housing for employees of the three casinos. Since 1996, SCORE International has hosted an annual off-road race known as Terribles SCORE Primm 300 in the town. The town of Primm also has a large outlet mall, restaurants and gas stations. A convenience store that sells more California lottery tickets than any other vendor in California is located just over the state line from Primm.

Primm Weather & Climate

The southern tip of Nevada has a subtropical desert climate, typical of the Mojave Desert. Summers are long and hot and winters short and mild. Extremely cold weather is rare, because the mountains east and north of the State act as a barrier to the cold continental arctic air masses. On occasion, however, a cold air mass reaches the area and produces prolonged cold waves. This region has a wide variation in day and night temperatures, due to strong surface heating during the day and rapid nighttime cooling. Even after the hottest days, nights are usually cool. June to September is very dry. Annual precipitation is around 4.5 inches, mostly falling in the wintertime. Winters are very mild, often with daytime highs of 60 degrees. F., and lows in the 40s. Snow is rare in southern Nevada valleys, but common in the mountains of the region.
