Henderson
is the second largest city in the state of Nevada. As of the 2010 census, the population was 265,679. It's located in the southern tip of the state in the Las Vegas Valley. Henderson is part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area. In 2011, Forbes Magazine ranked Henderson as the second safest city in the United States. It's also been named "One of the Best Cities to Live in America," by Bloomberg Businessweek. The city is just a short drive from the world-famous Las Vegas strip, yet is far enough away to be a much safer, quieter option for visiting or living. The city of Henderson offers major shopping malls, a wide variety of restaurants, move theaters and casino resorts. Shakespeare in the Park is a long-standing testament to Hendersons support for the arts and cultural programs. The city also boasts the largest recreational facility, the Multigenerational Facility at Liberty Pointe, n Nevada. It's also home to Nevadas only Bird Preserve. The city supports a variety of other cultural events as well, many of which are held at the outdoor amphitheater, which is the largest one of its kind in Nevada. Other Henderson attractions include the Acacia Demonstration Gardens, the Black Mountain Recreation Center, Clark County Heritage Museum, Ethel M Botanical Cactus Garden and the Ethel M Chocolate Factory. Scenes from Henderson are frequently featured on TV shows, including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, although the majority of the show is filmed in California.

The southeast corner of Nevada has a subtropical desert climate with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Extremely cold weather is rare. On occasion, however, a cold air mass reaches the area and produces prolonged cold periods. Southeast Nevada has a wide variation in day and nighttime temperatures. Even after the hottest days, nights are usually cool. June to September is very dry. Annual precipitation is around 4.5 inches, mostly falling in the wintertime. Winter daytime highs are generally 60 degrees. F., and lows in the 40s. Snow is rare in southern Nevada valleys, but common in the mountains of the region. The principal climatic features are bright sunshine, small annual precipitation, (averaging nine inches in the valleys and deserts) heavy snowfall in the higher mountains, clean, dry air, and exceptionally large daily ranges of temperature.
