Boulder-City
is located in Clark County in the southern tip of Nevada. It's about 20 miles from Las Vegas, and as of the 2010 census, the population was 15,023. Boulder City is one of only two towns in the state of Nevada that prohibit gambling. The town was created in 1931 by the Bureau of Reclamation and Six Companies, Inc., as housing for workers of the Hoover Dam. Men hoping to work on the dam had begun settling along the Colorado River in tents the year prior. The magnitude and duration of the dam project caused the Bureau of Reclamation to consider the building of a town for the workers. Thus, Boulder City became one of the rare towns fully planned under government supervision. In 2009, Money Magazine ranked it 6th in its annual "Top 25 Places to Retire in the U.S." This honor was based on affordable housing, good medical care, tax rates and arts and leisure activities. Boulder City is home to two public golf courses, one private golf course, a city pool, mountain hiking trails, athletic fields, tennis courts, a BMX bicycle track. Other things to do include skydiving and scenic aerial tours of the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon. The city also hosts the annual "Dam Short Film Festival" in early February. Started in 2005, the Dam Short Film Festival screens films that are between 1 and 40 minutes long. Most are submitted by students and independent film makers, however, they often involve film professionals, such as Tom Hanks and Louis Gossett Jr. Other points of interest near Boulder City include Lake Mead, the Alan Botanical Gardens, and Red Rock Canyon.

The southeast corner of Nevada has a subtropical desert climate with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Extremely cold weather is rare. On occasion, however, a cold air mass reaches the area and produces prolonged cold periods. Southeast Nevada has a wide variation in day and nighttime temperatures. Even after the hottest days, nights are usually cool. June to September is very dry. Annual precipitation is around 4.5 inches, mostly falling in the wintertime. Winter daytime highs are generally 60 degrees. F., and lows in the 40s. Snow is rare in southern Nevada valleys, but common in the mountains of the region. The principal climatic features are bright sunshine, small annual precipitation, (averaging nine inches in the valleys and deserts) heavy snowfall in the higher mountains, clean, dry air, and exceptionally large daily ranges of temperature.
