Jarbidge
is a small, unincorporated community located in Northeast Nevada's Elko County. It sits at the bottom of the Jarbridge River canyon within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The town lies just 10 miles south of the Nevada/Idaho border. The town of Jarbridge is remote, with no paved roads within almost 20 miles of the community. It's almost a "ghost town," but does have a small year-round population, especially noted for its uniqueness and historic buildings and structures. The "getting there" is an adventure in itself. From Rogerson, Twin Falls, Idaho, the community is accessed by way of Three Creek Road, which originates along U.S. Route 93. The final 18 miles of this route are unimproved, but it is usually open all year. From the city of Elko, Nevada, the easiest access by traveling north along Nevada State Route 225 for about 55 miles. Then, 21 miles east along Elko County Road 746,the North Fork-Charleston Road, and finally 28 miles north along Elko County Road 748, the Jarbidge-Charleston Road. The latter two segments of this route are unimproved and receive no winter maintenance, so they are often closed in winter, as early as October. Gold was discovered near Jarbridge in 1909, and is noted as being the site of one of the last gold rushes in the Old West. Jarbridge was also the site of the last stagecoach robbery in 1916. The region also offers outdoor recreation; fishing, hiking, mountain biking, four-wheeling and snowmobiling. Jarbridge has a motel, hotel, bed and breakfast, restaurant, a gas station, RV park and a gift shop. Secluded campsites are located along the Jarbridge River.

Central Nevada is largely desert with a semiarid climate. Much of it is located within the Great Basin, with the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the western edge and the Mojave Desert to the south. Central Nevada is one of the driest regions in the United States, with hot summers and cold winters. It's common for summer daytime temperatures to soar above 100 degrees F. Precipitation is scarce in central Nevada. The average annual rainfall is around 7 inches. Humidity is generally so low that the high summer temperatures are less uncomfortable in Nevada than in other more humid states. In the central region, freezes begin in autumn and continue until late spring. Snowfall is common in the mountainous regions, especially in the north.

The closest airports in the area are the Owyhee airport (10U) located about 39 miles west of Jarbidge in Owyhee, Nevada, Jackpot Hayden Field (06U) located approximately 40 miles east of Jarbidge in Jackpot, Nevada, Joslin Field Magic Valley Regional airport (TWF) located roughly 63 miles northeast of Jarbidge in Twin Falls, Idaho, and finally the Elko Regional airport (EKO) located around 75 miles southwest of Jarbidge in Elko, Nevada.
