Jackpot is a small community located in Elko County in northern Nevada. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,195 residents. It's less than one mile from the Idaho border, and approximately 45 miles south of the city of Twin Falls, Idaho. With its' convenient location on U.S. Route 93, the town of Jackpot has long been a popular casino gambling destination for residents of Idaho and other neighboring states. From Wikipedia: "After Idaho outlawed all forms of casino gaming in 1954, Cactus Pete Piersanti and Don French moved their slot machine operations from Idaho to the Jackpot town site. Piersantis and Frenchs gaming establishments were named Cactus Petes and the Horseshu Club respectively. Piersanti in particular is credited for founding Jackpot as well as for naming it. Cactus Petes management took over the Horseshu in 1964 to form what would eventually become Ameristar Casinos. The Ameristar-owned Cactus Petes and Horseshu, as well as the independent Bartons Club 93 and the Four Jacks Casino, form the basis of the towns economy to this day." Jackpot is also near Salmon Falls Creek, a tributary of the Snake River. Formed in the high mountains at the northern edge of the Great Basin, Salmon Falls Creek use to serve as a trading route between native American Groups of the Snake River Plain and Great Basin. Today, it's water is mostly used for irrigation.
