Pahrump
is a town in southern Nevada, about an hour west of Las Vegas and an hour east of Death Valley National Park. As of the 2010 census, the population was 36,441. The town of Pahrump lies in the heart of the desert with the perfect location from which to explore all that southern Nevada has to offer. The town bills itself as "Your Base Camp to Adventure." However, the town of Pahrump itself has much to offer both residents and visitors. Since the late 1970s, Pahrump has grown continuously, and it's home to many special events, arts and cultural and recreational attractions. Wineries, golf, 24-hour casinos, high-speed racing, off-trails, museums, RV camping - it's all here in Pahrump. The town is home to the Pahrump Valley Speedway, which brings thousands of race fans to the town each year. The speedway's motto is to be a place that provides "family style fun at prices families can afford." Pahrump is also near Spring Mountain National Recreation Area, a forested, spring-fed oasis in the Mojave Desert. Things to do in the park include hiking and backpacking, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, camping, and exploring historic sites. Pahrump is an easy day trip to Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Death Valley National Park, the Amargosa Opera House, China Ranch Date Farm and Dumont Dunes. The town of Pahrump is also host to an Annual Fall Festival, a Film Festival, and the High Desert Shorts Film Festival.

South-Central Nevada has an arid climate with hot summers and cool winters and very low humidity. There is a wide range in day and nighttime temperatures, so even in midsummer, nights can be chilly. Average annual precipitation is 5.09 inches, with an average of 37 days with measurable precipitation. Average annual snowfall is 13.0 inches. Thunderstorms are infrequent and tornadoes are rare in southern Nevada - winds are generally light. Dust or sand storms occur occasionally, particularly in the south during the spring, when storms move through the region more frequently than at other seasons. South-central Nevada has lots of sunshine, with days of possible sunshine being more than 80 percent. The low humidity and abundant sunshine produces rapid evaporation of any precipitation that does occur.
