Moapa Valley Weather & Climate

The southernmost tip of Nevada has a subtropical desert climate, typical of the Mojave Desert. Summers are long and hot and winters short and mild. Extremely cold weather is rare, because the mountains east and north of the State act as a barrier to the cold continental arctic air masses. On occasion, however, a cold air mass reaches the area and produces prolonged cold waves. This region has a wide variation in day and night temperatures, due to strong surface heating during the day and rapid nighttime cooling. Even after the hottest days, nights are usually cool. June to September is very dry. Annual precipitation is around 4.5 inches, mostly falling in the wintertime. Winters are very mild, often with daytime highs of 60 degrees. F., and lows in the 40s. Snow is rare in southern Nevada valleys, but common in the mountains of the region.
