Beatty is a small unincorporated community located along the Amargosa River in southern Nevada. It is part of Nye County and U.S. Route 95 runs through the town. Beatty lives between Tonopah, about 90 miles to the north, and Las Vegas, about 120 miles to the southeast. Death Valley National Park is about 8 miles west of Beatty. The town was established in 1905 with the arrival of the Las Vegas and Tonopah Railroad. Beatty became a railway center for the Bullfrog Mining District, including mining towns such as nearby Rhyolite. Starting in the 1940s, Nellis Air Force Base and other federal installations contributed to the towns economy. Later, tourism became an important boost to Beatty's economy, due to the proximity to Death Valley National Park and as a stopover for people traveling to Las Vegas. The town is home to the Beatty Museum and Historical Society. Other nearby attractions include the ghost town of Rhyolite and the Goldwell Open Air Museum, which is a sculpture park, about 4 miles to the west. Baileys Hot Springs and bathhouses are approximately 5 miles north of Beatty in the Oasis Valley.

Beatty Weather & Climate

South-Central Nevada has an arid climate with hot summers and cool winters and very low humidity. There is a wide range in day and nighttime temperatures, so even in midsummer, nights can be chilly. Average annual precipitation is 5.09 inches, with an average of 37 days with measurable precipitation. Average annual snowfall is 13.0 inches. Thunderstorms are infrequent and tornadoes are rare in southern Nevada - winds are generally light. Dust or sand storms occur occasionally, particularly in the south during the spring, when storms move through the region more frequently than at other seasons. South-central Nevada has lots of sunshine, with days of possible sunshine being more than 80 percent. The low humidity and abundant sunshine produces rapid evaporation of any precipitation that does occur.
