Winnemucca
is located in northwestern Nevada where it is the only incorporated city in Humboldt County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,396. Interstate 80 passes through the city where it converges with U.S. Route 95. Winnemucca is a vibrant town with a lot to see and do. It offers 24-hour gambling, historical attractions, year-round special events and outdoor recreation. Some of the special events in Winnemucca include the Run-A-Mucca motorcycle rally each Memorial Day Weekend, the Fifties Fever Car Show, the Winnemucca Basque Festival, the Western States Ranch Rodeo Finals and the Winnemucca Ranch Hand Rodeo Weekend in February. Outdoor recreation is abundant in the area where you can go hiking, biking, camping, golfing or hunting. The Winnemucca area is also known as having some of the best access to rock hounding in the U.S. - it's a gateway to Nevada's opal mines. There are lots of places to explore around Winnemucca, such as abandoned ghost towns and other historical spots. What a great place for off-road adventures! Winnemucca is also home to the Buckaroo Hall of Fame and Heritage Museum, and the State Bank and Trust building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Northwestern Nevada has a semi-arid climate. December is the coldest month of the year and July is the warmest month. Summers are dry and hot, but the temperature drops significantly at night. It's not unusual for daytime highs in summer to be in the 90s and drop into the 40s or 50s at night. Winters are cold with an average of 22 inches of snowfall in a typical year. The lowest recorded temperature in northwest Nevada was minus 37 degrees F. on December 22, 1990. Freezing temperatures have been recorded in this region in every month of the year. Average rainfall in northwestern Nevada is 8.29 inches, mostly occurring from late autumn through early spring. Occasionally, moisture from the Arizona Monsoon will cause summer thunderstorms.
