Laughlin
is an unincorporated community located at the southern tip of Nevada, near the point where the states of California, Arizona and Nevada meet. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,323. Laughlin is a port town on the Colorado River and is about 90 miles south of Las Vegas. It's most well-known for its' casinos and water recreation on the river. Other nearby towns include Bullhead City, Arizona, Needles, California, Mohave Valley and Fort Mohave. Laughlin is the third most-visited casino and resort destination in Nevada, after Las Vegas and Reno. It's also one of the top five destinations for American RV enthusiasts. Most of the casinos in Laughlin line the Colorado River and are linked by a pedestrian thoroughfare called the "Laughlin Riverwalk." There are nine hotel/casinos and one motel in Laughlin, which provide over 10,000 rooms. Other attractions include 60 restaurants, two museums, a 34-lane bowling alley and a variety of boutiques, spas and salons. The town attracts nearly three million visitors each year who come to gamble, camp in their RV and enjoy water sports. Special events in Laughlin include the Laughlin (Motorcyclists) River Run and Talent Quest National Finals, which has been hosted by the Tropicana Express Hotel and Casino since 2001. This contest is held the third week of September, where qualifying singers compete for the top spot in Male and Female Pop/Rock/R&B and Male and Female Country/Western.

Laughlin Weather & Climate

A hot, desert climate with mild winters describes Needles' weather. Located in southern California just west the Arizona State line, Needles is one of the hottest and driest places in the state. For instance, in the summer, it can have highs in excess of 110 degrees. Winters, by comparison, are very mild with cool evenings. Summer is a dry period, although occasionally moist air drifts northward from the Gulf of Mexico or the Gulf of California and creates scattered, locally heavy showers. What rain that does occur in the wintertime is usually between the months of January through March. People who enjoy outdoors sports are attracted to Needles' warm winters and abundance of sunny days.
